Cargo Protection: Choosing the Right Industrial Transportation Netting

Transportation is a critical element in most businesses, so you should assess the general haulage practices in your operation regularly. One of the important shipping aspects that you should think about when performing this type of review is cargo protection. Basically, you should ensure that there are good measures in place to prevent cargo damage and unexpected losses. There are different ways in which you can improve cargo protection, but using transport nets presents the most benefits. This type of industrial product will stabilise combined loads, prevent shifting on rough roads and allow better management of shipments. If you decide to invest in the cargo netting, consider these simple factors before choosing the right protective product.

Fabrication Material

When purchasing cargo netting for commercial transportation, you must consider the material used for fabrication. This will affect the durability of the product, the cost and the general performance. There are three primary materials that are commonly selected for cargo netting: polyester, nylon and polypropylene. Polyester is a favourable choice because of the low purchase price attached. Moreover, the material is strong and resistant to rot and mildew infestation. Nylon is more expensive, but it will provide longer service life. Polypropylene netting is resistant to oils and water, so it can handle cargo in adverse environments. For example, it is perfect for ship transportation because the webbing will not be damaged by the fluids around.

Mesh Sizes

The size of the openings in the netting is an important factor to assess because it will determine the effectiveness of the protective product. In simple terms, if the spaces are small, they will provide better support and improve the stability of the pertinent shipment. However, a mesh product that is closely knit requires more threads or ropes for the manufacturing process. Consequently, the cost of purchase for each netting unit will be higher. Cheaper cargo netting with large mesh spaces provide less support and is not suited for smaller packaged shipments because there is risk of slipping out. Therefore, it is important to find a compromise between the purchasing prices and mesh size.

Load Rating

Finally, you should check the maximum load rating in the specifications of the netting products. Compare this with your potential shipments to determine whether the match is ideal. If the load rating is lower than your cargo weight, the net will experience undue stress and break prematurely. On the other hand, the capacity of netting is determined by the thickness of the threads or ropes, so high-rated products will be more expensive.

About Me

Mike's Manufacturing Blog

Welcome to my blog! My name is Mike and I live in a small town in New South Wales, Australia. Last year, I retired from my job at the local bank. At first, I thought I would enjoy having the freedom to do what I liked with my time, but I quickly became bored. I started to visit my son who runs an industrial manufacturing plant. I would spend my time hanging out with him in his office and walking around the factory. I learnt an awful lot while I was there and it really got me interested in the manufacturing process so I decided to start a blog.
